The cost of tuning could vary from technician to technician depending on distance of travel involved, and of course if there is any other work that needs to be done. A piano technician will always initially quote a price for tuning. It is however, a bit of a misconception to think that a piano technician only tunes the strings of a piano, as there is a lot more involved than just that.

Finding a reputable piano tuner/technician can be a difficult task. There are online directories, but it can often be better to ask a piano teacher or maybe a local music college. A piano dealer, if you have one nearby, will have a list of piano technicians and many larger piano dealers will have their own service department. Often these companies are able to offer services beyond standard tuning and maintenance, such as cabinet repairs and re-polishing. It should be noted that some piano technicians may not be able to carry out repairs to the woodwork of your piano but will usually recommend a good local furniture restorer.
